Ternary sorting aims to stop false positives

Once the goodness of a message is established, implementation of the actual user interface treatment depends on the mail user agent or e-mail client deployed: code changes for a Web-based e-mail reader or a plug-in for an off-the-shelf client.

With ternary sorting in place, the best messages will bypass the spam filters and only messages not backed by reputation services, or plain messages, should be subject to automatic spam filtering. Messages that make it through the filters will appear in the in-box without any special marking. The trust icon is reserved for known-good, reputation-backed e-mails (which bypassed the filters altogether).
